James Elmer Tickle, 83, of the Grahams Forge area in Max Meadows, Va., passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Born on October 13, 1926, in Bland County, Va., he was preceded in his death by his parents, Benjamin Trigg and Nellie King Tickle; a brother, Raymond Tickle; a brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Callie Tickle; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Charles Milke; and a sister, Rose Tickle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Cline Tickle; tiffany heart toggle bracelet a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Sandi Tickle, of Danville, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Robert (Bob) Mabe, of Max Meadows, Va.; sisters and brothers-in- law, Erma and Frank Hackler and Marie and Alfred Umberger, all of Wytheville, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law Benjamin (BT) and Margaret Tickle, of Richmond, Va., and Roger and Gretchen Tickle, of Spring, Texas; six grandchildren, Natasha and James Puckett, of Max Meadows, Nike Shox Shoes Va., Abigail and Shane Goosie, of Powell, Tenn., Jennifer Tickle and John Carey, of Leonardtown, Md., Brian Tickle, and Stephen and Jessica Tickle, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Angela Tickle, of Washington D.C.; a great-grandson, Reed Edison Carey, of Leonardtown, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Elmer was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He also co-owned and operated Pine Ridge Esso and Grahams Forge Exxon for 40 years. Elmer enjoyed farming for most of his life. He was also a member of Petunia Christian Church in Wytheville, Va., for many years. Funeral arrangements will be made by Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home the Jewellery Brooch following day, 11 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010, with interment to follow at West End Cemetery in Wytheville, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be sent to either the Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road or to Petunia Christian Church, 2420 West Lee Highway, both in Wytheville, Va. 24382.
